为什么是“猪坚强”而不是“猪坚决”,“猪坚定”,“猪坚持”呢?

Remember the pig from the Wenchuan earthquake? Nicknamed 36 Wa'er, it was originally a big fat pig in the home of Wan Xingming, a villager in Tuanshan Village, Longmenshan Town, Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province. “坚决”“坚定”“坚强”("Resolute", "firm" and "strong")all have the meaning of unshakable, but the objects they refer to are different.

“坚决”("Resolute")means not hesitating and not being swayed by external forces. Generally refers to a person's attitude, behavior, etc. to be sure not to move.

Example:我坚决反对这个观点( I strongly protest against this idea.)

“坚定”("Firm"), meaning stable and strong, not wavering. It generally refers to a person's position, belief, assertion, etc.

Example:我坚定了信心(I am firm in my confidence.)

“坚强”("Strong"), meaning sturdy and strong, unshakeable and indestructible, can refer to both the character of a person and the organizational structure.

Example:他是个坚强的人(He is a tough guy.)
“坚持”:(verb)you keep doing something and won’t give up.
